First Tee Program: Teaching Life Skills Through Golf

by ,

Now is the perfect time to get your young ones into the game of golf! Swinomish Golf Links is partnering with the Kiwanis Sunrisers to offer the First Tee program for children ages 7 through 18. First Tee, an internationally recognized youth program, offers kids the chance to play golf in a safe and fun environment, while also learning nine core life values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgement.

This year, First Tee at Swinomish Golf Links is off to a great start, with more than 35 young golfers participating. Tom Perry, First Tee program director and golf instructor, focuses each session on a different set of golf skills, while connecting each skill to one of the nine core life values. Tom enjoys helping kids understand how life and golf are intertwined. Plus, it’s a valuable way for families to spend time together. “Golf is the greatest family sport there is,” Tom said. “A lot of people nowadays are glued to their electronic devices, but families can play golf together without all of life’s interruptions.” Classes are available on Thursdays and Saturdays. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to call Tom at 360-661-5168.

All participating First Tee families may also receive the special Family Day Program rate. Families play golf on Sundays for just $10!

First Tee Tournament is on August 17 at Swinomish Golf Links!
